Microneedling involves using a handheld device to create hundreds of microscopic needle impressions in the skin on the face or body. As the treatment pen is passed over the face, it creates microinjuries and prompts the derma, a deeper layer of skin, to mount a healing response, delivering a natural collagen boost. The tiny channels in the skin made by the needles also allows for deeper absorption of topical treatments after treatment.
Microneedling is an effective treatment and can treat a range of different skin concerns, such as:
Microneedling with Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid when absorbed into the skin after microneedling, can aid in adding volume and providing nourishing hyaluronic acid to the skin. When paired with micro-needling, the repair process begins almost immediately resulting in softened wrinkles and scars, as well as a thicker dermis.
PRP + Microneedling (Vampire Facial)
Microneedling is generally more effective if platelet rich plasma (PRP) from the blood is added to the treatment. PRP is plasma that has a higher concentration of platelets than other blood constituents. Platelets trigger the release of growth factors in plasma, which are crucial for the healing of wounds injury. This treatment is completely natural using your own platelets to stimulate the release of growth factors for the skin stem cells to grow healthier and at a faster rate.
Proteins found in PRP include cytokines and growth factors. These proteins aid in the self-repair of skin tissue.
It can take a few weeks before visible signs of rejuvenation and repair are seen. The process then continues over the following months. Best results are usually seen after a course of 3-6 treatments and this will depend on your individual requirements and will be discussed fully during the consultation.
We recommend a course of 3-6 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart. Treating acne scars may take a little longer.
Discomfort is usually minor, but this can vary from person to person. You may experience a tingling, sensitive sensation but we do apply a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.
Micro-needling is a safe procedure with low risks. Infection and scarring are rare. It is important that these aesthetic treatments are carried out by an experienced, fully-qualified and trained professional to minimise the risk of potential complications. A full discussion of the potential risks will be carried out at consultation, before any procedure is undertaken.
You will usually be with us for 30 minutes. Your first appointment may be longer as it usually includes a full skin assessment, and discussion of your concerns and treatment options.
