Dermal fillers are used to add volume and contour to the face, but sometimes they can result in undesirable outcomes such as asymmetry, overfilling, or lumps and bumps.
Filler dissolving therapy is a quick and safe solution to remove or reduce the appearance of unwanted filler. The treatment involves the injection of an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which breaks down the hyaluronic acid in the filler. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body that helps to hydrate and plump the skin.
Treatment time 15-30 mins
Immediate results
Mild-moderate discomfort
The treated areas may swell up for 2-3 hours. Depending on amount of Hyaluronidase use, the swelling could be longer. The result of the dissolving can be seen typically 3-7 days although the enzyme still keeps working until stop around 14 days after.
Depending on the type of Hyaluronic acid filler, some of them need more than one session to dissolve. Particularly the large molecule filler for cheek, chin or jaw lines. We always review our patients after two week and top up the injection if necessary.
With the numbing cream and sometimes mixing with anaesthetic, the injection causes minimal discomfort.
The side effects are rare as listed below.
We require patients to wait 4 weeks from the date of the last dissolving service before being reinjected with the hyaluronic acid filler, so it is not broken down faster if the enzyme is still active in the tissue.
